Asking the Bigger Questions about Assessment
This podcast was given by a professor from Baylor University. He connected assessment with different Shakespearean plays. He is emphasizing that assessment should be about what our students are actually learning, not about where they fall on the likert scale, curve, and/or ranking. He asks, "What is school for?" He calls many of the national tests the "Mighty Metrics", such as SAT, ACT, etc. He says this only gives a narrow measure of a students learning. How do these tests drive education success and learning? Ultimately the author determines that proving assessment is burdening the true learning success of the students. Towards the end of the podcast he provides many solutions to help this problem, such as witnessing.
